Why Woodworking?

I’ve been woodworking since 2016. What I enjoy most about the craft is the ability to take an idea or concept and use the available tools around me to create something. It can be beautiful. It can be functional. And hopefully both! I’ve been fortunate to work on some incredible projects and pick up a few tricks. Woodworking is such a fun medium to exercise my passions for creative design and problem-solving.

How It Started

What started out as requests from my wife to build some items for our home turned into a hobby where I was able to tap into my family’s roots. My grandfather was a finish carpenter just outside of New York City from the 1950s-1990s. He and my grandmother immigrated from Norway with $10 and a hammer. I’ve been passed down some of his tools and now I get to use them to craft things the way that he did.

Fun fact, my last name “Dalen” means “valley” in Norwegian!

What About Now?

Woodworking still plays a critical role in my life. Its a clear passion and past time of mine. It is not something I pursue as a career but when the right project comes up I love to be involved. Whether that is building it myself or linking up with my network of creators.

I enjoy sharing my work and the process with others. Click the Instagram Icon below or continue scrolling to see some of the projects I’ve created.
